The personal assistant to late gospel singer ToluwaniSings, Babadunni Olayemi, has revealed that efforts to get medical attention for the singer were unsuccessful after he suddenly slumped, with the singer reportedly taken to between seven and eight hospitals in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Babadunni said some of the hospitals gave reasons for not attending to the singer, including the unavailability of doctors due to an ongoing strike, while others allegedly refused to admit him.
ToluwaniSings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, d+ied on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, a day after reportedly performing at a worship event.
Speaking about the incident on Thursday, Babadunni said he was not present when the singer slumped in the morning but rushed to the scene after receiving a phone call.
“I am Babadunni Gbolabo. I am the PA to ToluwaniSings. When it happened in the morning, I wasn’t here, so they called me and I came,” he said.
He explained that the singer had appeared healthy before the incident and that people at the scene tried to revive him before rushing him to different hospitals.
“There was nothing wrong with him. He was very fine and in perfect condition. He just slumped. They tried to resuscitate him. They went helter-skelter. They took him to some hospitals, but they were giving excuses,” he said.
Babadunni added that some hospitals reportedly said their doctors were unavailable because of the strike, while others did not admit the singer despite the efforts to secure treatment.
“We took him to up to seven to eight hospitals in Ibadan, but God said his time was up,” he added.
The PA also disclosed that the singer’s body had been taken to a mortuary, with the family expected to decide on the next steps after consultations.
He said the family members were still trying to come to terms with the situation and would determine the arrangements after holding a meeting.
ToluwaniSings was known for his gospel songs, including A Very Big God and Onibuore, which earned him a following among worshippers.
